Mez and Isaiah Rashad Collab for Soulful Love Song "Hot Spot"
Tumblr media
Mez's elite pen game and strong sense of visual creativity has endeared him to some of the biggest names in rap history. Teeing up his latest high-profile connection, Mez shares "Hot Spot," his new song with Isaiah Rashad. Produced by Monte Booker, Phoelix & Cam O'bi, "Hot Spot" is a Southern-fried slow jam, populated with sensually spindly guitars and a soulful choir bringing the emotion home. Mez works a sing-song flow, sliding between the snares with double-time pledges of devotion: "I'm the plug and you're the outlet, and I really love your outfit/But that sh*t would look much better on the floor," croons Mez. Isaiah Rashad takes a different perspective, reflecting on all the connections he might have missed while living life on the road. Together, the two rappers create a cerebral and yearning anthem for those who haven't yet given up on modern romance. "Hot Spot" is Mez's second high-quality song of 2024, following the vibrant "Call On" ft. Kurtis Wells and its inventive music video.
Mez's upcoming EP is the culmination of his long journey through the music industry. Emerging out of Raleigh in the early 2010s, Mez was a leading light in a fertile NC rap scene that birthed underground and mainstream stars. Mez's sharp lyrics and assured artistic vision helped convince some of music's biggest stars to trust him with their creative visions. Then known as "King Mez," the rapper was one of the driving forces behind Compton, Dr. Dre's long-awaited third album, appearing on nine tracks and writing on several others–his efforts drew praise from the likes of Pitchfork, NPR, Vulture, and many others. Mez has been a regular affiliate of his friend and fellow North Carolinian J. Cole, and has contributed several verses to Dreamville compilations, including Revenge Of The Dreamers III and last year's Creed III: The Soundtrack. Mez is also a renowned video director, stepping behind the camera for clips like J. Cole's "Middle Child" and "a m a r i," Dreamville's "Sleep Deprived" (on which he also raps), plus videos for Ari Lennox, Isaiah Rashad, and more.
Now, Mez steps back into the forefront, armed with his own message and more than enough talent to make it known. Stay tuned for much more from the multi-talented artist in the near future, including the Mez's self-directed video for "Hot Spot," coming next week.

TFS HFIL EP. 8 Little Lord Freeza
First off, I just can’t get over this particular scene, Frieza just spun so smoothly with so much sass.
Tumblr media
I get the joke now lol, the movies are all terrible coz they need to make the MCMs suffer. The fact Cell knew a lot of movies. Did he absorb those knowledge?ヽ(´▽`)/ The ep could’ve ended differently if Frieza just watched movies with Cell and listen to his info dump.
Tumblr media
Y he nakey? King Cold stop being d1lfy, sus and naked challenge. You cannot be Character of The Month again, GOSH. And he’s technically not naked according to uh…himself?
Tumblr media
I’m drawing Frieza in new expressions that I never expect! This is fun! Y’all he didn’t cry, but I’m pretty sure he is inside. Such a princess, you didn’t receive attention for a millisecond and-
Character of the Month: DODORIA. She’s got your back and did a great job reassuring and support her Lord! <333
Tumblr media
Inspired by the “Fallen Angel”, Alexandre Cabanel, 1847, oil on canvas. Because Frieza’s pain, falling from a prestigious class into desperation for his father’s attention. Fire.
Tumblr media
I put the new Forgis on the jeep~
Tumblr media
NananananaBatman! scuttlescuttlescutlle
Tumblr media
He definitely cried in his sleep
Tumblr media
King Cold might be goofy asf now, but we all know he can be dangerously manipulative, he’s intelligent like that. He’s planing something~
Tumblr media
It was a rollercoaster of motivation and demotivation but I pulled through! As always, thank you so much for looking through the artwork! I appreciate it so much and give a reblog if you like!🔁 ♥️ SEE U NEXT EPISODE!

Books for spiritual formation
Books that have left an indelible mark on my understanding of God or the Christian faith in some way. My spiritual development is unfinished, so this list is unfinished - I'm always open to suggestions
Soren Kierkegaard
The Sickness Unto Death - Explained how sin works psychologically, illustrates how it can be its own punishment
Works of Love - What it means to love, what it costs, what it gives us
Fear and Trembling - What faith means, its miraculous nature
Karl Barth
Evangelical Theology - What theology actually means, how the gospel is good news
The Epistle to the Romans - Shows the need for continual reformation of thought within the church, introduced (to me) the idea of God's freedom in communication to man
Church Dogmatics II.2 - Election is good news! It is God willing to choose humanity despite sin - universal reconciliation can and should be hoped for
The Journal of John Woolman
What undying commitment to justice means, what it looks like
Martin Luther King Jr
Letter from a Birmingham Jail - Made me understand how Romans 13:1 can be integrated into radical politics
A Gift of Love - Brought to life 1 John 4:20
A Prayer for Owen Meany, John Irving
A narrative illustration of unwavering faith
The Imitation of Christ, Thomas Kempis
What we're saved to, salvation has a telos
Flannery O'Connor
Wise Blood - Life without Christ, the perils of sola scriptura
A Good Man is Hard to Find - Shows grace as an intrusive lived experience
Marilynne Robinson
Gilead novels (Gilead, Home, Lila) - Rich illustration of Imago Dei
When I Was a Child I Read Books - Bolstered my understanding of the 8th commandment (reading with charitable intent, in interactions with others in life and on the page)
What Are We Doing Here? - Illustrates what the glory of God means in daily experience
Garry Wills
What Paul Meant - Paul and Jesus were of a unified mind, stop reading Paul as a bible thumper, start reading him as a man who loved dearly and wrote with urgency on live issues
Religio Medici, Thomas Browne
Ecumenism is a beautiful thing and should be strived for in all Christian communities
The Seven Storey Mountain, Thomas Merton
The gospel brings peace of mind and soul, searching for peace is a valid epistemology
Eichmann in Jerusalem, Hannah Arendt
Wickedness is not inevitable, it arises from moral and intellectual sluggardliness
The Cost of Discipleship, Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Learn to love the church, it is the arms of Christ; great exegesis of the Sermon on the Mount; great companion to the book of James
White Evangelical Racism, Anthea Butler
Evangelicalism did not emerge from theological first principles, it is a diseased expression of the faith informed by racism at the root
Jesus and John Wayne, Kristin Kobes du Mez
Evangelicalism did not emerge from theological first principles, it is a diseased expression of the faith informed by misogyny at the root
C.S. Lewis
The Great Divorce - Eternity begins now, sin is its own punishment and grace is its own reward
Till We Have Faces - God has compassion and patience for those who wrestle with him, to summon the boldness to contend with God can be a blessed thing
The Courage to Be, Paul Tillich
The dynamics of Christian faith explained in the abstract
As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner
The thinness of intellectual assent, the richness of faith
The Denial of Death, Ernest Becker
Explanation of the existential need faith meets in the language of continental philosophy
Confessions, St. Augustine
The most theologically and philosophically rich testimony besides that of St. Paul
An Unpublished Essay on the Trinity, Jonathan Edwards
What is the trinity, why is it important
John Milton
Areopagitica - Enforced virtue means nothing
Paradise Lost - Human beings are worth saving even if they aren't deserving of God's favor
Civilization and its Discontents, Sigmund Freud
Illustrates the necessity of grace by exploring a world through the assumption of its absence (excellent foil to A Gift of Love)

Interior Chinatown by Charles Yu
Passing by Nella Larsen °
American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang

Book Recommendations 2023!
Hello from someone who read 111 books this year! Time for favorites and recommendations!
Favorites:
Babel: Or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators' Revolution by R. F. Kuang: I read this back in January 2023 and when I did I was like, “Did I read my favorite book of the year already in January?” Well, I did. In a world where the British Empire solidifies its power with silver infused with magic based on translation, a Chinese boy becomes an Oxford student and then has to decide what he’s going to do in the face of this system. Absolutely fantastic. (Also scratches that “school story + magic” itch that we’re all supposed to pretend we never liked.)
A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik: This one was pure fun, about students in a magical school with reasons for “no adults” and “high risk of death” that I was down with for the world. Main character has been foretold to be the most powerful evil wizard in the world. She doesn’t want this.
Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson: This is a nonfiction book by a lawyer who is working against the death penalty, and I highly recommend it to everyone who wants to know more about WTF is going on in the current US criminal justice system.
Creature: Paintings, Drawings, and Reflections by Shaun Tan: Art, highly charming art of creatures and monsters.
Dealing With Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede: This is the first book of the series The Enchanted Forest Chronicles, which I loved as a child and decided to reread this year. It’s about a princess who decides to go work for a dragon as the dragon’s princess, because it’s better than being wooed by a stupid prince. Fun, earnest fantasy. Also Kazul (King of the Dragons, she/her) please call me I love you.
Translation State by Ann Leckie: Things I really liked about this were that it included people in widely varying strange situations trying to figure out their futures. And one of the people doing this was a middle-aged adult. Also involved one of those Advanced Sci-fi Intimacy situations with two other people, which I always enjoy hollering about.
Revelations by Mary Sharratt: This is a novel about Margery Kempe, a medieval mystic, her life, and her travels, taking the work of Julian of Norwich to other communities in secret. This book really stood out to me because I found it really showed a deep understanding of the era it depicts, and the characters really feel like they have the framework of their time. I’m not a medievalist but I think I have read more than average about the European middle ages and that’s what I’m basing this opinion on. I thought it was very beautiful and very human.
The Wordhord by Hana Videen: This is a nonfiction book about Old English with chapters on topics like “health and the body” “travel” “occupations” etc. The idea is to examine what we can tell about the lives of Old English speakers based on the words they had. A significant amount of Old English vocabulary is included. Made me want to start putting Old English puns in the next thing I write but maybe I recovered from that.
Other recommendations:
Jesus and John Wayne by Kristin Kobes Du Mez: Do you want to know WTF is going on with the Christian Right in the United States? This will help.
Readme.txt by Chelsea Manning: Another book that I felt helped me understand a little more of WTF is going on re: the military/security culture
The Stones are Hatching by Geraldine McCaughrean: This is a book I read as a kid and missed a lot of because I didn’t know about a lot of traditional British faeries/creatures. I think anyone interested in folk horror as a genre would have fun reading this. It didn’t go on my favorites because the main character’s older sister is treated fatphobically to a degree that taints the overall book for me.
Hench by Natalie Zina Walschots: This is a fun book about a woman who makes a living as a henchperson for supervillains. After she gets injured by a superhero, she starts analyzing the actual cost of superheroes to the world, and this work leads her to working for one of the world’s top supervillains. I think this isn’t in my favorites because...IDK, it’s like...it felt vaguely like a reply to one of tumblr’s endless writing prompt posts? It’s good, and I know I have no room to talk about the tumblr style or whatever, but there’s a certain vibe...I don’t know how to describe it. I really do still recommend it.
NOTE: Reading is my main form of entertainment. I’m not keeping up with movies, videogames, TV shows, comics, etc. I have no qualifications with these recommendations except that I am a person who read 111 books this year.

Orion hums sitting down, she was cradling her hand that was in so much pain. She hummed and sat down with Cell, who was on his phone.
“What are you typing?” Orion asked.
“Nothing really.” Cell said, with a look of annoyance, Orion shrugs and Cell was shoved out the way by Goz.
“Orion! Zis is amazing!” Goz giddily said, Orion tilts her head.
“What is?” Orion asked.
“Well, we pitched your idea of redemption to King Yemma… And…” Goz began.
“He’s asking us to represent you!” Mez finished.
“Oh really!?” Orion gets up.
“Ja! We’re due to meet with him so we can see what time for a meeting you can go too!” Goz adds.
“This is amazing! I… I can’t wait!” Orion smiled.
“Of course, but we… need to do somezing up with him, so we have to leave HFIL for the time being!” Goz said.
“Ja, Ja. We need to leave for a couple of hours, and we’re leaving Cell in charge.” Mez said. At that, Cell’s head perks up.
“Wait what?” Cell asked, and before he could dispute that, Goz and Mez were already out the door.
“Have a nice day~” They sang and left. Cell groaned, and got up.
“Cell! Isn’t that amazing!? We might actually get to finally prove to everyone that HFIL residents are able to be redeemed!” Orion smiled, holding him. Cell groans.
“What? I don’t… Why did those idiots put me in charge?” Cell asked.
“Well, treat it as a good thing! This can change things and you can end up being proof of… Whatever gets someone to Heaven!” Orion giggles.
“Do you even know, what gets someone into Heaven?” Cell asked.
“No, I mean you know what gets a soul into HFIL so do the opposite.” Orion said. Cell gruffs, and mumbled.
“Whatever.”
“Well, I got this all figured out and by doing the calculations I can discover we’re able to get this day goi-” Orion noticed that Cell was at the door and he slammed it shut.
“Parties ready!” Cell called and everyone started partying.
“Wait, Cell-” Orion began.
Cell ignored her, and she sighs.
“Oh, loosen up a bit, this is a party for the days! We’re living our best lives here!” Cell laughs.
“Cell, what if you compromise your chances at redemption?” Orion sternly asked.
“Eh, we only live once!” Cell said.
“You did live once, and now it’s literal! Cell get back-”
Orion found herself being at the receiving end of things as Cell partied, there was alcohol and Orion groaned. Why did Goz and Mez think that putting Cell in charge would work? He’s very irresponsible and by the night everyone got drunk, and Orion couldn’t really do much other than join in. So now, they were all drunk.
“Uuugh, my head! Can’t it stop spinning!” Fu groans, Orion snorts and rolls her eyes.
“We live on a planet, Fyu. It’s not going to stop spinning!” Orion slurs.
“Orion~! Orion~!” Said a voice, and Orion turned to face the voice and it was Cell, completely plastered and her face broke out in a grin. She hiccuped.
“Hey, look~ It’s Dura-Dura-Durabell!” Orion hiccups. Cell snickers and wraps an arm around her waist and giggles gently. He kisses her neck and she lets out a hiccup. She gasps.
“Hey- Orion~! I think- *hic* I think *hic* you’re hot!” Cell giggles. Orion smiled.
“I think your hot too dumbbell!” Orion slurs.
“You wanna come to my room and make out?” Cell asked.
“Do I?” Orion smirks.
“Wait, hold on.” Orion starts. “Me and Fu made a pact.”
“Yup, a pact.” Fu slurs.
“If I ever hit it, then he has to join.” Orion said.
“Mhm, I am he.” Fu said.
“And it goes for guys I 100% think are hot, which you are.” Orion slurs.
“And I think Cell’s hot too.” Fu snickers, and Orion smacked his neck.
“Ow.”
“Alright, then! YAY! Goz and Mez are going to kill me wooo!” Cell slurs, and before Orion could get up, she heard another voice.
“Orion!” Zarbon stumbled in.
“Zar-Zarburt!? What happened to your arm!?” Orion asked.
“Garbage Disposal took it…” Zarbon slurs.
“Oh! Show yourself now! Asshole!” Fu yelled.
“Yeah! Don’t hurt Zarbon! You asshole!” Orion slurs.
“Ugh! I’m gonna beat whoever-” Fu began.
Orion gasped, noticing Cell on the floor. “Oh! NO! Durabell, Dura-Duracall- Is asleep! Who's gonna frick me now?!”
“Hey, Orion… Hehe… If you meet me in the closet I can rock your world!” Zarbon winks, and Orion stares blankly.
“Okay. Sure.” Orion shrugs.
“You know what? I’m joining too.” Fu agrees, and Orion turns to face Zarbon who was zoned out.
“Yeah, lets, lets after we get my hand from the disposal.” Zarbon slunks off, as Fu and Orion heads off.
Hours passed, and Cell found himself awoken with a severe headache, feeling like shit. He opened both his eyes, noticing the Mansion was a disaster, party cups everywhere and food all over the place, his eyes darted to the clock on the wall, it was a quarter past 11, his face panics. He knew Mez and Goz would be back anytime soon and he blew it. So quickly he gathered all the trash to clean up.
The pounding in his head persisted even after he cleaned up the mess. He knew Orion was right, and he cursed himself especially after he got Orion drunk… He felt like pure shit. He needed to apologize to her, especially… Wait, where was she?
He heard giggling and went to the source of it, and out of the closet, Orion stumbled with Zarbon and Fu.
“We don't talk about this to anyone, got it?” Orion asked.
“I swear on my soul.” Fu promises, and hiccups.
“Hey!” Cell yells, the trio gasps.
“Oh fuck! It’s Cell! Back in the closet!” Orion shouts as they run back in the closet, and Cell clenches his fists, before another issue arises. He turned slightly to see Goz and Mez standing there.
“What ze fuck is zis mess?!”

I think by pretty much all measures I am more insane and obsessed and intense about Widdershins than anything else. BUT. Widdershins is a webcomic and this is like the correct environment to be like this in. The ACTUAL thing i am more disproportionately strongly feeling and insane about compared to what it is and the appropriate targeted response is probably The Kings of Summer because that's just like a niche comedy coming of age film that has been forgotten by pretty much everyone if they even saw it at all but I have a LOT of emotions all the time about it

My friends, I’m reaching the end of my library queue and I’m in desperate need of new books to put holds on. Y’all got any recommendations?
In fiction, I don’t do YA, and if it’s romance I prefer characters over 30. I read basically any genre (romance, lit, horror, sci fi, fantasy, I’ll enjoy it all).
In nonfiction, I don’t do self-help or true crime. (Love history, science, politics, pop culture, etc)
I just need some fresh recs? Old favorites? Guilty pleasures?
